School-Based ABA Support

Support that helps skills carry over into the classroom through clear goals, collaboration, and practical strategies

Book appointment

What school-based ABA can help with

Many children know a skill at home but struggle to use it in school. School-based support focuses on helping skills transfer into the classroom and reducing behaviors that interrupt learning.

  • Following directions and classroom routines
  • Transitions (arrival, recess to class, specials, dismissal)
  • Staying with the group and participating appropriately
  • Reducing disruptions (yelling, refusal, leaving seat, elopement)
  • Communication and requesting help appropriately
  • Social skills (peer interaction, turn-taking, group activities)
  • Coping skills for frustration, waiting, and “no”
  • Independence (work completion, organization, self-management)

What support looks like in school

School-based ABA isn’t about “controlling” a child, it’s about setting them up to succeed in a structured environment. We focus on realistic goals that improve learning and participation.

Support can include observing patterns, building a clear plan, practicing skills during real school routines, and helping adults respond consistently so progress actually sticks.

Collaboration

When everyone responds the same way, children learn faster. We work to support consistency across settings by collaborating with caregivers and, when appropriate, school staff.

Depending on the situation, collaboration can include:

  • Clear behavior supports and classroom strategies
  • Simple, practical communication tools (visuals, prompts, routines)
  • Helping reinforce appropriate behavior and replacement skills
  • Tracking progress so decisions are based on real patterns

How to get started

  1. Book an appointment so we can learn about your child and your goals.
  2. Insurance & paperwork (if applicable) to confirm benefits and next steps.
  3. Assessment and planning to identify priorities and build a clear treatment plan.
  4. Therapy begins with consistent sessions and measurable goals.
  5. Ongoing parent coaching so progress continues between sessions and over time.
  6. Study our behavior help blog for practical ideas and strategies, as well as theories to think about.

Parents are part of the school-success plan

Even when challenges show up most at school, home support matters. We help parents learn what to reinforce, how to prep for tough transitions, and how to respond in ways that support progress without accidentally reinforcing the problem.

Areas served

We provide in-home services in North Miami-Dade, South Broward, and throughout the rest of South Florida. Click here for more info about the areas we serve.

We also offer in-home ABA therapy and community-based ABA services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@thrivebehavioraltherapy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, ABA strategies can be used in school to support learning, communication, and behavior. The exact setup depends on your child’s needs and what the school allows.

Usually, yes. Each school has its own rules. Most allow outside providers with approval and required paperwork. It may depend on whether your child is in nursery, preschool, elementary school, or middle school.

Yes. We can still help by coaching parents, creating a practical plan, and supporting consistency between home and school. This ensures progress carries over into the school day.

No. ABA does not replace school services. It supports your child’s success and complements school services, such as an IEP or 504 plan, by building skills and reducing behaviors that interfere with learning.

An Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) helps identify why a behavior is happening. A Behavior Intervention Plan (FIB) is the plan built from that information, what to teach, what to reinforce, and how adults should respond consistently.

Often, yes. When behavior needs support in order for a student to access learning, a BIP is commonly included as part of the IEP.

Yes. ABA support often focuses on teaching replacement skills (like requesting a break or help), improving transitions, building tolerance for demands, and reinforcing appropriate behavior so learning time improves.

Yes. When appropriate and permitted, we can support collaboration by sharing strategies, clarifying goals, and helping families prepare for meetings like IEP or 504 discussions.
